Why Everybody Should Be Moisturizing

beauty products

Our skin goes through a lot while we go through our busy days. The natural elements such as sun, dirt, sweat, and pollution can take a toll. Our skin, like it or not, needs some assistance in looking and feeling it’s best. No matter if you have dry to oily skin; moisturizing should be a part of your daily routine. Not only will you look younger but also have healthy skin that isn’t too dry or oily.

Balances of moisture levels

A critical ingredient for keeping your body hydrated is water. Our bodies don’t naturally produce moisture, which is why you must drink water throughout the day. Also, you must apply moisturizer to your skin. Selecting a moisturizer based on your skin type is essential to getting the most hydration from your moisturizer.

The result of not applying moisturizer can lead to flaking, cracking, and skin aging at a faster rate. Moist moisturizers contain oil which works well for people with dry to normal skin. The oils in the cream not only keeps your skin soft, but acts as a wall against allergens and sealing in water content.

If you have oily skin, you might be thinking to yourself as to why you should apply moisturizer. Once again, we go back to the word hydration. You might not need moisturizer for the oil content, but you need it for the hydration aspect. If not applied, it will lead to moisture content leaving the skin; resulting in dry skin or even more oil produced. An oil-free, hydrating moisturizer that works the same as if it contained oil is best. Check out our full list of recommendations at the bottom of the page.

Reduces aging

The most common reason for using moisturizers is to slow the signs of aging. As we age skin cell regeneration and the production of oils slows, resulting in fine lines and wrinkles. Face, neck, and chest are the most sensitive parts as they loose skin cells the quickest.

Applying moisturizer will repair skin cells at a much faster rate leading to smooth and hydrated skin. A note for the guys—you should be using moisturizer. Males show more signs of aging faster than women.

Helps to reduce acne

There is a common misconception about the use of moisturizer while having acne. Some believe that using moisturizer will inhibit the acne from disappearing, which is false. It not only evens and smooths out your skin but also helps acne go away faster. If you are using an acne wash, it is essential to be applying moisturizer after washing your face.

How acne washes can diminish acne is by halting the production of oil from happening. As a result of the dryness from the oils removed, the body can react by producing even more oil. To avoid this, apply moisturizer about 3-5 minutes after a shower while your pores are open, and your skin has optimal moisture content.

Choosing the right moisturizer

With all the different moisturizers on the market, it can be difficult in choosing which one is best for you. First, you need to find out what skin type you are. One method is by looking at your face at the end of the day. If you show no signs of shine on your skin, or maybe have some flaking you have dry skin. Next could be having a normal amount of oil, which shows itself as a little shine but not a significant amount. If you have an excessive amount of oil, especially on the t-zone of your face (forehead, nose, and chin); you have oily skin.
